Watch New Book of Abraham Video. Cross-posted from Pearl of Great Price Central. Published serially from 1 March to 16 May and canonized by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 10 October , the Book of Abraham has been valued by Latter-day Saints for its important teachings on the nature of the Abrahamic covenant, the pre-mortal existence of humanity, .   The Institute for Religious Research has published two major resources challenging the authenticity of the Book of Abraham: a book entitled By His Own Hand upon Papyrus () and a DVD entitled The Lost Book of Abraham (). As one would expect, Mormon intellectuals have sought to answer the criticisms of the Book of Abraham leveled in these and other works.

In the Testament of Abraham, another pseudepigraphical text of the early Christian era, Abraham sees a vision of the Last Judgment that is unquestionably related to the judgment scene pictured in the th chapter of the Book of the Dead, thus clearly associating Abraham with this ancient Egyptian work.   Abraham (Genesis ): God used a vision to restate the Abrahamic Covenant, reminding Abram that he would have a son and be the father of many nations. Abimelech (Genesis ): Abraham’s wife, Sarah, was beautiful—so beautiful that when Abraham came into a new area he occasionally feared that the local ruler would kill him and take.

A careful study of the book of Abraham provides a better measure of the book's merits than any hypothesis that treats the text as a conventional translation. The truth of the book of Abraham is ultimately found through careful study of its teachings, sincere prayer, and the confirmation of the Spirit. The original promise given to Abraham, that “through his seed all the nations of the earth would be blessed,” will be fulfilled when the Book of Mormon and other prophetic writings of Abraham’s descendants are restored and provide all peoples with the knowledge of their redeemer and his gospel—the way by which they may attain eternal.
